Branto, Hong Kong

Location: 1/FL, 9 Lock Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, Hong Kong. Phone: (852) 2366 8171
Specialty: Indian vegetarian food
Cost: > HKD 100 for 2

Keep your eyes open for this place. You may cross the street and yet not be able to locate the restaurant. Yes, it's a pretty small place on the first floor of a non-descript building in the otherwise busy street of TST, Kowloon… and yet always busy! Branto is definitely an-Indian-vegetarian-caught-in-HK's dream come true! Undoubtedly, the best pure veg restaurant in Hong Kong. You get a variety of vegetarian dishes, but the best part of Branto is the south-Indian food… Try the Idli, sambhar and dosa there and you will get a feel of being back in India!

My Recommendation: Go, try this place out when you want to have food outside, at a vegetarian place… A must visit place, the day your taste buds are cravin the South-Indian delicacies…!

Koh-I-Noor, Hong Kong

Location: 34 D'Aguilar St, Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong
Specialty: Indian food (Both Veg and Non-veg)
Cost: > HKD 150 for 2

Good, delicious, Indian buffet for a fairly decent price. Nothing special about the ambience, but a fairly quiet place, as it seats only about 15 people… so, a great place to have a good conversation while having a simple meal. The meal doesn't have a lot of variety, but the food tastes great…!!

Due to less number of people around, the service is good and you have an Indian lady greet you with a warm smile as soon as you enter!

My Recommendation: Go, try this place out when you want to have food outside, but at a place where you can get food that tastes like the coveted Ghar ka khaana!!

Tandoor, Hong Kong

Name: Tandoor
Location: 1/F Lyndhurst Tower, 1 Lyndhurst Terrace, Central, HK. Tel (852) 2845 2262

Specialty: Indian Cuisine (Both Veg and Non-Veg)
Cost: >150-200 HKD

Tandoor is located in the Lan Kwai Fong area, popularly known as LKF. This area is one of the hot-spots of Hong Kong and always bustling with activity. It is right next to Central, where most of the offices are located. So, if you work in IFC or near by, chances are that you can walk down to this place.

The ambience from the inside is soothing… The interior is done very tastefully, in pucca Indian style!! There are paintings and sculptures of Indian men and women in ethnic Indian dresses all over the place… The icing on the cake is the live performances, with artists on Tabla and Harmonium, giving the place that much-needed ethnic touch!!

My Recommendation: Come for a lunch Buffet. It will blow you over! The food is delicious, or I would say, as delicious as it gets in Hong Kong… right from the various chats (had bhel puri today), you can expect both North Indian and South Indian culinary in the buffet! So, if you missing Indian buffet in HK, Tandoor is the place to be!

Make sure you book a table in advance. If you get a place without prior booking, you should bless your stars that day! This is coz this place is always jam-packed, as most of the Indian people around (and there are many) like to come here for lunches during office hours, thanks to the proximity of the place to the various offices…
